Students may be used to receiving flyers for many different purposes. Think about how you can make yours stand out. It is worth training the CU on how to give out flyers well.
- Be friendly and enthusiastic — look like you think the event will be great… people are much more likely to come.
- When footfall is slow — use the flyers as a way of opening conversation.
- Don’t advertise the event as ‘free food’. Lead with the topic of the talk/discussion.
- If someone overtly declines your flyer don’t get discouraged. When it is busy it can be worth pausing for a few seconds otherwise everyone else may copy them in rejecting the flyer too!
- We have found that, increasingly, people are to coming to events following having a conversation with someone over a flyer.
- The time just before an event starts can be the most effective. It’s not the time to give up and go inside! Make sure that there are people still delegated to flyer… while others set up the venue / welcome people in at the start.
